How to Launch a Client Website

The final stage in the production of any website should be to review everything, this page includes a few of the regular issues that occur and also advice about standard tasks that need completing, before a Web Editor website can be launched.

While the content of a website may look correct, there are a number of common technical errors caused by bad content entry, which need to be corrected before a website is launched.

Content Checking

You should check all the website content, links, text and images for mistakes, such as spelling or grammatical mistakes.

Using Firefox spelling mistakes are indicated by a red underline, however due to a bug in Firefox these cannot be corrected unless you select the Source option, which will show you the source code mixed with the content text, here mistakes can be right-clicked and corrected.

If content was copied and pasted from other documents, such as Microsoft Word, you should ensure that any extra code that was carried over has been removed.

All Web Editor templates include links to verify HTML ( set at XHTML1 transitional ) and CSS - it is the responsibility of the website developer to ensure that the code they use validates without faults or errors.

Client Domain

Before a client domain can function correctly with Web Editor it requires a number of configuration changes:

  • The client's domain name must be added to the details section.
  • DNS Nameservers must be pointed to Web Editor server ( see DNS article ).
  • The domain name must be connected to the client's account ( see Technical Zone article ).

XML, Analytics & Google Webmasters

As Web Editor has an easy RSS builder, it makes sense to use it, once the client's domain has been added correctly to the details section, return to the editor and update both RSS feeds.

A Google Analytics code can be added if requested & it is possible to add and verify client sites with Google Webmasters by adding the requested html document using the web files ( Go ) FTP account.

Payments and Renewals

It is your responsibility to ensure that all client details have been added to the required documents in docs.greenmedia.es, including info about:

  • domain ownership & domain registration renewal dates.
  • domain hosting dates.

If the client has payments to make, these must all be completed before the website is launched - this includes the first year's hosting.

The client must also be made aware that hosting renewals need to be paid before the renewal date using an online payment, generally via PayPal.
